Application steps
1. Choose and rank 3 pre-approved health system initiatives that align with your LHS research interests or an initiative that you devise with a sponsor.
The E-STAR Center encourages scholars to select projects that health systems have already submitted for approval as high-priority.
If you have any questions about an initiative, email the LHS E-STAR health system liaisons to discuss your interest.

2. Complete the E-STAR Application.
3. Submit the following to [email protected]:
- CV or resume
- Brief personal statement, including why you are interested in this program and how your background, experiences, and/or research interests contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion in health care
- List of relevant clinical research courses completed
- (Fellows and faculty) - Department Chair or Division Chief letter of support
confirming salary support for a minimum 40% protected time to participate in the
program - (Residents) - Program Director letter of support confirming protected time
Key program elements
- Research and Training Stipend ~$24,000 (covers coursework, research-related tasks, conferences, etc.)
- LEAN Healthcare Improvement Training: Six 4-hour sessions at Mission Hall.
- LHS Curriculum and Works-in-Progress:
- Bimonthly in-person seminars at Mission Hall
- 10 am – 12 pm, September through May (second and fourth Fridays)
- Scholars will share their experiences, gain knowledge, and develop skills
- LHS workshop: Two-day workshop
- Fellows Advancement Skills Training in Clinical Research (FAST-CaR): Four 3-hour remote sessions
- Mentored Health System Improvement project
- Project and career development mentorship
- Coursework
